The Hawai‘i Wildlife Center is a 501(c)(3) conservation organization formed to fill a critical need for care and rapid response when native Hawaiian animals are injured or threatened. Hawai‘i has the unfortunate distinction of having more endangered species per square mile than anywhere on Earth, thus making the need for our facility so critical. When completed it will be a place of healing and learning and will consist of three integrated facilities: a wildlife care and response unit, and interpretive and outreach courtyard and an education pavilion. The Center will operate 7 days a week year-round.
Our wildlife service area extends more than 1,000 nautical miles from the Big Island to Kure Atoll in the newly established Papahānaumokuākea National Monument, in the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands. Our work is important to the entire Pacific region as wildlife habitats on islands are increasingly under threat from climate change, habitat loss and invasive species.
