Fernwood

Fernwood is one of only six natural (green) cemeteries in the United States, and the only one in California. It is not only a cemetery and funeral home, it is also a memorial landscape. It is a unique site where families and histories connect through cycles of nature, memory and restoration with a variety of options available for both conventional and natural burial. Natural burial at Fernwood uses no toxic embalming fluids or concrete vaults, and only a biodegradable casket or a burial shroud. Natural rocks, shrubs, wildflowers and trees serve as memorial markers, and each grave is locatable via GPS/GIS technology. Each tree, flower, songbird, boulder and butterfly becomes a memorial to a loved one and a hope for the future.
