Sacramento Area Sustainable Business Program

The Sustainable Business Program, operated by the Business Environmental Resource Center at McClellan, California, is a free service available to all Sacramento region businesses and organizations. It encourages businesses to conserve resources, prevent pollution, implement green building practices, use energy efficiently, and reduce water consumption. There is no cost to participate in The Sustainable Business Program. It is made possible through the sponsorship of the Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD), the Sacramento Regional Solid Waste Authority, the Business Environmental Resource Center, the South Placer County Green Business Program, the Western Propane Gas Association, and by private companies including the Sacramento Business Journal, Voith Turbo, Inc., Allied Waste Services, Hannibal’s Catering, Revel Environmental Manufacturing Inc., and Living Well, Inc. 300 businesses and organizations in the counties of Sacramento, Yolo, Sutter, Yuba, Butte, Nevada, Placer, San Joaquin, and El Dorado are currently participating in this voluntary effort to improve the quality of our environment. APPLICATION. Review the certification criteria and checklists (http://sacberc.org/Web/programs/ssbp/certification_criteria.php). Fill out the checklists indicating the suggested measures or practices you select. Once implemented, submit an application (http://sacberc.org/Web/programs/ssbp/pdfs/Program%20Application.pdf) and your completed checklists for review. 2. VERIFICATION. Allow program staff to verify the selected measures and track your progress by setting up a site visit at your place of business. Once certified, your business will be presented with a certificate and window placard indicating the level of certification. 3. RECOGNITION. Submit a business description, a business logo, and a picture of your choice. These will be used on the Sacramento Area Sustainable Business website where your business will gain free advertising.
