Welcome to Clever Bins
The Bins
Clever Bins, solar powered street litter bins, are an exciting new innovation helping local authorities and associated bodies in Britain tackle public waste management. The bins are given out free of charge and by request in areas of high pedestrian footfall such as shopping centres and busy roadsides. There are name advantages of having a Clever Bin on any street-corner; from being presentable and accessible for public use, the bins are also an effective means of promoting recycling amongst the general public.
Our Aim
Our aim is to work in close collaboration with local authorities in placing Clever Street Litter and Street Recycling Bins on most street corners in Britain by 2012. Our long-term goal is to generate local and national environmental benefits for the UK.
This includes:
- The reduction of litter in public places; litter is an incivility that reduces the perceived value of areas and makes them less attractive for use by the public.
- Increasing levels of recycling by the public; this is such that recycling. behaviour becomes increasingly common place and an integrated part of people's daily activities.
- Reducing the reliance on non-renewable resources; this includes petroleum-based plastics by re-use/recycling of packaging materials.
- Reducing waste going to landfills; this will lower the cost of landfill operation and the necessity to develop more landfill sites on land that could be used for other purposes.
Reducing the environmental cost
Placement of more waste units is unlikely to directly reduce littering. Research shows however that placement of high visibility units makes people more aware of their presence, in turn helping to promote the use of public bins.
Advertising on a Clever Bin
One unique factor about Clever Bins is that businesses can advertise on the sides of our bins. Sponsorship of a Clever Bin is open to all small to medium businesses although priority will be given to local businesses. The advertising revenue mainly goes towards maintenance of existing units and the procurement of new ones. To find out more about advertising click here.
