Social Events-
Surrounding yourself with others who have the same values and beliefs is a basic human instinct. By gathering individuals who are in to things like clean air, conserving resources, eating local food, creating non-toxic products, ect. We all start to change for the better. Rather than going it alone, we provide a setting where we can each learn from and support one another.
Sustainable crafting Co-op-
We start by collecting scrap materials, fabrics,woods,metals,glass,and anything that could be given a purpose and saved from a landfill. Next we get in hands of the out-side-the-box-thinking people and see what they come up with. If you are looking for a way to unleash your creativity, share sustainable living with others, help SustainGroup.org pay some bills, and even make a few bucks yourself then this is the program for you.
Event Support and Recycling-
One of the ways we have found to spread the word, teach leaders about sustainable practices, and save "treasure" from the landfill is through logistical support for events. Something as simple as providing recycling bins and then taking them offsite provides a great opportunity to teach and set a good example. Last year from one small 3-day festival we collected a pick-up truck load of recyclables. We can only imagine what can, and SHOULD be done at larger events that draw 15,000 to 70,000 people.
Workshops-
At the core of SustainGroup.org is sharing knowledge. In addition to more casual activities we are developing more formal methods of information sharing. The primary strategy we want to employ is "teaching the teacher." Not only will we teach various subject matter, we will teach how to share it. We also believe changing habits that have developed over a lifetime need more than four-hour Saturday session. Much like and addiction, overcoming the standard "throw-away" lifestyle isn't an easy thing to do.
